What We Do

San Joaquin Valley YFC accomplishes its mission with these local ministry programs.

We totally get it. Middle and high school is a roller coaster. It is the best of times and the worst of times filled with pivotal moments. We know how a pivotal moment can shape a story because we’ve been through them ourselves. We also know that young people experiencing pivotal moments often feel over-looked and under-served, walking through their story without someone in their corner.

Campus Life leaders build relationships with young people to introduce them to Christ. We seek to cultivate great moments of connection and community for young people. Through a holistic approach Campus life helps students as they wrestle with critical issues. Leaders help young people realize a Christ-centered life that provides balance mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

We are committed to coming alongside young people and meeting them where they are. We seek to help young people navigate the pivotal years of middle and high school, uncovering God’s story of hope in their lives.

Patrick Chan is the Director of our Campus Life Club that meets on Tuesdays, after school, at Ben Holt Academy located at:  3293 E. Morada Ln. in Stockton. Currently we are engaged in a Grow and Thrive campaign, with the dream of hiring two more staff who will help us double the number of students we can impact with the life changing message of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 25:35-36 35 For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Young people in the juvenile justice system often feel overlooked, and it’s our passion to make them feel seen, heard, and valued. Juvenile Justice Ministry leaders aim to be a steady voice and presence in their lives, intentionally postured as a humble and authentic mentor.

We pursue thousands of young people in the United States justice system each year, coming alongside them in a variety of juvenile justice settings (i.e., detention centers, probation, correctional facilities, group homes, residential treatment centers, emergency shelters, courts, and diversion programs).

Many of the teenagers we meet face adverse situations such as relational trauma, racial trauma, community violence, and lack of access to basic needs. It is during these moments of crisis that our leaders invest in reciprocal trusted friendships with our young people, who are facing pivotal life challenges. We ultimately build relationships with young people to introduce them to Christ and uncover God’s story of Hope in their lives.

Through a unique relationship with the San Joaquin County Juvenile Courts, we are able to connect trained adults to incarcerated young people and serve as the protestant chaplains at the Juvenile Detention Center in San Joaquin County.

Further in our current Grow and Thrive campaign, we are hiring a new ministry leader with experience in the correctional system. As the new Director of our JJM strategy, this individual will help us grow not just the number of young people we reach, but also the degree of deep work that needs to be done in their lives.

Point Break Adolescent Resources is our Community-Assisting Division of San Joaquin Valley Youth for Christ that has helped us collaborate with school districts in San Joaquin County. Our Early Intervention Specialist facilitates Anger Management, Substance Abuse, and Gang Awareness and Intervention classes and one-on-ones.

Through Point Break, we also offer all-day Violence Prevention Workshops to High Schools and Stand Together Anti-Bullying Workshops to Middle Schools.

Point Breaks purpose is to be a resource for parents, schools and community groups in San Joaquin County that help teenagers develop resiliency skills and overcome risky behavior.
